Cultivating Gratitude: A November Journaling Journey

November is often known as the month to think on thanksgiving and gratitude, but what if we did something more? What if this year, we created room to reflect with purpose, embracing the idea that gratitude is more than just a feeling—it’s a sacred practice.

This month, I invite you to join me for a 4-week Gratitude Journaling Challenge designed especially for women in midlife. Each week includes a practical journaling exercise, and a Bible verse to reflect on and memorize. Whether you use a journal, a notepad, or even a gratitude jar, let’s make November a sacred space for slowing down, remembering, and giving thanks.

How to Participate:

  • Choose Your Method: Use a journal, a calendar, sticky notes, or a Gratitude Jar (read more about this idea and download my free printable below)—whatever helps you stay consistent. Make it visible in a high-traffic spot in your home.
  • Set a Time: Mornings with coffee or quiet evenings before bed are great times to pause and reflect.
  • Use the Weekly Prompts: Each week brings a different theme and Scripture. You can journal daily reflections within that theme or just sit with it a few times each week.

Week 1: Gratitude in the Small Things (November 1-7, 2025)

Memory Verse:Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)

Journaling Ideas:

  • Write about one small, often-overlooked blessing each day—warm socks, a sunny morning, a peaceful drive.
  • Look around your home. What everyday comforts bring you peace? Or thankfulness?
  • Recall a moment when someone showed you a small kindness.
  • Go back through old calendar notes or texts—what joy is hidden in the ordinary?

Week 2: Gratitude for People (November 8-14, 2025)

Memory Verse: “I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.”
– Ephesians 1:16 (ESV)

Journaling Ideas:

  • Focus on one person each day—family, friend, neighbor, coworker—and name a specific way they bless your life.
  • Write a prayer of thanksgiving for someone you haven’t seen in a while.
  • Send a note or message to someone you write about—gratitude multiplies when it’s shared.

Week 3: Gratitude in the Hard Seasons (November 15-21, 2025)

Memory Verse: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18 (ESV)

Journaling Ideas:

  • Reflect on a difficult season and look for how God sustained you through it.
  • What lesson did that time teach you? Who showed up for you?
  • Are you currently facing a hardship? Ask God to open your eyes to small glimmers of grace.

Week 4: Gratitude for God’s Faithfulness (November 22-30, 2025)

Memory Verse: “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” – Hebrews 10:23 (ESV)

Journaling Ideas:

  • Look through your phone’s photo album from earlier this year. Choose a photo that reminds you of a meaningful moment—write about why you’re thankful.
  • Record a few ways you’ve seen God’s faithfulness in this season.
  • Write a letter of gratitude to God, thanking Him for who He is and what He’s done.

Ready to Join Me?

You don’t have to be a “journaler” to join in—just someone willing to pause and give thanks. Midlife brings change, but also clarity. When we look closely, we begin to see how God’s grace has been stitched through every season.

Bonus Idea: Create a Gratitude Jar

Want a simple and creative way to reflect each day? Try a Gratitude Jar. Use a mason jar (or any container), and drop in one note per day.

When the month ends, keep your jar. Revisit it during a stressful season or reread your notes next Thanksgiving. Gratitude has a lasting impact—it rewires our perspective and softens our hearts.
