A few years ago, before my neighborhood grew to what it is now, there was a Someone.
This Someone never made a big announcement or revealed who they were. Instead, they simply used their artistic gifts to bring a little joy to others. Smooth river rocks were transformed into cheerful, colorful mini-masterpieces—hand-painted and left in unexpected places throughout the neighborhood. You might find one at the park, in a flowerbed, or even on a front porch.
Whenever someone discovered one, they’d snap a photo and post it to our neighborhood Facebook group. We all joined in the collective “ooh” and “aah” over this quiet act of beauty and kindness. To this day, the Rock Artist’s identity remains a mystery. But their small, creative acts of kindness made a lasting impression.
In a world that often feels divisive and chaotic, kindness can feel like a light in the dark. A single thoughtful gesture—even from a stranger—can be the thing that lifts someone’s heavy day. We don’t always see the impact of our kindness, but that doesn’t mean it goes unnoticed. As believers, we’re called to be that light. Ephesians 4:32 encourages us: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Kindness Starts with Us
When my sons were young, I wanted kindness to be a part of who they were—not just something they did occasionally. So I tried to model it in the everyday moments: smiling at others, saying thank you often, and showing appreciation for people in service roles. Those seemingly small actions left a big impact. Now grown, my boys practice those same habits naturally.
We don’t need a holiday or special occasion to be kind. But it’s always a good reminder to pause and look for creative ways to bless others. This week, I challenge you to look outward. Who can you surprise with a little extra kindness?
Simple Ways to Spread Kindness
To help get started, here are a few creative ways to show love and thoughtfulness this week:
Write Kindness:
- Send a thank-you note to a friend who has supported you lately.
- Tuck a love note into your spouse’s lunch bag or briefcase.
- Leave a sticky note of encouragement on the bathroom mirror for your child or roommate.
- Text an old friend and schedule a long-overdue catch-up date.
Pay it Forward:
- Pay for the coffee behind you in the drive-thru or leave money with the cashier to cover someone else’s treat.
- Bless a teacher with a small gift card—it doesn’t have to be Teacher Appreciation Week to say thanks!
- Share gently used items in your neighborhood group for free pickup.
- Pack brown-bag lunches (with water bottles) to hand out to those experiencing homelessness in your city.
- Pick up extra canned goods on your next grocery run and drop them off at your local food pantry.
Kindness in the Friendly Skies
One of my favorite RAKs came from a friend on social media. Before a flight, she packed little goodie bags for the flight attendants. I loved the idea and now do the same. In each small treat bag, I included a KIND bar (fitting, right?), sugar-free candies, hand sanitizer, and a handmade card with a cheerful airline pun.
Depending on your budget, you can get even more creative—add lip balm, lotion, packets of Emergen-C, or even a small Starbucks gift card. It’s a small way to say, “I see you,” and it’s always appreciated.

Live it Out
Kindness doesn’t need to be extravagant. It just needs to be intentional. Whether you’re handing out goodie bags or writing a note to a neighbor, your actions matter. Jesus reminded us that even a cup of cold water given in His name doesn’t go unnoticed (Matthew 10:42). Let your kindness be an overflow of His grace in you.
Take a moment to pray and ask:
Who in my life needs a little extra kindness this week?
How can I use my creativity to show compassion today?
Then choose one idea from the printable and do it. You may never know the full impact—but God does.
