As a blogger for many years, I’ve covered several topics—most notably sharing homeschool tools and resources for homeschooling teenagers.
When my youngest graduated, I entered a new state of life. I found myself asking: Where should my writing go from here?
It was time to evaluate and decide the direction for my future writing. Restarting a blog with a new focus felt necessary—but in a world overflowing with blogs, it was also a bit daunting.
Why Blogging Still Matters in 2025
Even with the growth of social media and new types of content, blogging still stands strong as a great way to connect and make an impact. Research shows that blogs are great for driving organic traffic, building loyal communities, and creating timeless content that can keep reaching readers for years to come.
Blogging’s unique strength lies in long-form writing that lets you explore topics thoughtfully and authentically—something quick posts or stories rarely allow. For creators who want to make a lasting impact, blogging is as viable and rewarding as ever.
Because I had a desire to continue blogging, transitioning to a new season meant shifting what I wanted to write about. No longer homeschooling full-time, I had to figure out: How do I find my new ideal reader? To help, I took an online class called “Find Your Unique Reader and Message.” It opened my eyes to some mistakes I was making with my current blog and helped me re-evaluate who my reader truly is.
4 Steps to Find Your Ideal Reader and Message
- Consider your personality: How do others describe you? What character traits shape your writing voice?
- Identify your passions and strengths: What energy and expertise do you bring that can serve your reader?
- Reflect on your life experiences: What unique perspective or help can you offer because of what you’ve lived through?
- Ask why you write: Do you write to encourage, educate, entertain, or all three? What impact do you want your words to have?
Often, the sweet spot lies where your gifts and passions meet the needs of your reader. And sometimes, your ideal reader is you—five or ten years ago!
