Why Blogging Still Matters in 2025—and How to Connect with Your Ideal Reader

This post was originally published in November 2021 and has been updated.

As a blogger for many years, I’ve covered several topics—most notably sharing homeschool tools and resources for homeschooling teenagers.

When my youngest graduated, I entered a new state of life. I found myself asking: Where should my writing go from here?

It was time to evaluate and decide the direction for my future writing. Restarting a blog with a new focus felt necessary—but in a world overflowing with blogs, it was also a bit daunting.

Why Blogging Still Matters in 2025

Even with the growth of social media and new types of content, blogging still stands strong as a great way to connect and make an impact. Research shows that blogs are great for driving organic traffic, building loyal communities, and creating timeless content that can keep reaching readers for years to come.

Blogging’s unique strength lies in long-form writing that lets you explore topics thoughtfully and authentically—something quick posts or stories rarely allow. For creators who want to make a lasting impact, blogging is as viable and rewarding as ever.

Because I had a desire to continue blogging, transitioning to a new season meant shifting what I wanted to write about. No longer homeschooling full-time, I had to figure out: How do I find my new ideal reader? To help, I took an online class called “Find Your Unique Reader and Message.” It opened my eyes to some mistakes I was making with my current blog and helped me re-evaluate who my reader truly is.

4 Steps to Find Your Ideal Reader and Message

  1. Consider your personality: How do others describe you? What character traits shape your writing voice?
  2. Identify your passions and strengths: What energy and expertise do you bring that can serve your reader?
  3. Reflect on your life experiences: What unique perspective or help can you offer because of what you’ve lived through?
  4. Ask why you write: Do you write to encourage, educate, entertain, or all three? What impact do you want your words to have?

Often, the sweet spot lies where your gifts and passions meet the needs of your reader. And sometimes, your ideal reader is you—five or ten years ago!

I’ve walked through many experiences, and now I can encourage and offer hope to women on similar journeys.

Now, Crafted By His Grace is my fresh endeavor to inspire and support midlife women in rediscovering their God-given creativity, embracing new seasons of life with purpose, and growing in faith though creative expression and community.

Whether we share art, crafts, journaling or storytelling, this space will be where faith and creativity meet—rooted in the truth of Ephesians 2:10: that we are God’s workmanship, created for good works.

To be honest, I’ve come to the point where I am not sure if blogging still matters. Outside the writing challenges, I don’t seem to attract readers.

these are some great tips. I also shifted my blogging focus once we retired and started doing more travelling. I love blogging for myself, but of course, I’m happy if others read too.

Thanks for this post. I’m writing because I love words and stringing them together. It’s good for my mental health also.

Great tips and I started blogging back in 2014 mostly doing product reviews. It slowing transformed into helpful tips, cooking and baking, and saving money tips. Lately my blogs are more life experiences or day to day happenings. This will be my 39th consecutive UBC I’ve completed and was hoping to get to 50 by the time I’m 80 but I seem to be running out of steam and ambition since my life change last year. But I keep pushing forward.

Such an important topic and YES! Covid shifted things for many of us. It is part of the reason I have relocated to the East Coast though I have actively wanted to do so for more than ten years! In the last year I have also been fulltime character (in shifts) for my mother who is now in assisted living. Sandwich generation? Yes, indeed. Thank you, Angie – for this helpful blog post. Always good to read you!

Thank you for these tips. I think I have a pretty good idea who I am writing to, but it's been a while since I have thought about it, and as you said things really have changed a lot recently. Thanks too for the Sandwich Generation information, I will check it out.
