Thrifted Finds to Fall Treasures: Frame Decor Ideas for Autumn

Whenever I visit a thrift store, one of the most common items I see on the shelves are photo frames. With so many of us storing pictures on our phones or having them printed in books or on canvas, traditional frames often go unused.

But here’s a little secret — you can repurpose ordinary photo frames into beautiful seasonal decor for your home!

In this post, I’m sharing 16 creative ways to decorate with frames for fall, using affordable items you may already have on hand.

DIY Fall Frame Decor with Natural Elements

Bring the beauty of the outdoors inside! With all the lovely colors of fall leaves, branches, and grasses, nature provides the perfect palette for autumn home decorating.

1. Pressed or Faux Leaves in Frames – Use three identical frames and display one large dried or faux leaf in each. Hang them in a row or cluster for a simple, elegant wall display.

2. Leaf Collage Wall Art – Create a colorful collage of real or faux leaves from your yard. Press and arrange them between two glass panels of a frame to look light and airy.

3. Framed Fall Botanicals – Gather wheat stems or varied dried grasses and mount them on a darker background for striking contrast.

4. Mixed Media Fall Frame – Combine textures like burlap, linen or small dried florals inside a frame for a rustic look.

5. Shadow Box Pumpkin Art – Use a deeper frame (or shadow frame) to display three-dimensional items like mini pinecones, wood slices, corks, or fabric scraps arranged into a pumpkin shape.

Fall Photo Frame Ideas for Seasonal Displays

Turn your favorite fall photos into cozy, rotating displays! Edit your pictures using a photo app to add warmth and cohesion, then print and frame them together — ready to store and reuse each year.

6. Old Window Frame Photo Display – Repurpose a window panel or purchase a pre-distressed version from a craft store. String rustic cord across the frame and use clips to hang family photos or fall prints.

7. Black-and-White Family Photo Wall – Choose several different frames in the same finish (like distressed white or matte black). Convert your fall photos to black and white for a timeless, unified look.

8. Vintage Fall Landscape Gallery – Frame vintage fall scenes, landscapes, or botanical prints. Stick to a cohesive frame color such as walnut or black and mix in a few textured pieces like burlap or fabric for depth.

Unique Fall Frame Crafts and Repurposed Decor

Don’t limit yourself to photos or prints! Frames are a wonderful way to highlight heirlooms, crafts, and handmade art.

9. Framed Fall Heirlooms – Showcase meaningful flat items such as embroidered linens, lace doilies, or fabric swatches. Mount them on a neutral or coordinating background so they stand out beautifully.

10. Cricut Paper Pumpkin Frame – If you love paper crafting, use your Cricut machine to cut and roll paper flowers or create layered pumpkin or leaf designs. Display them in a shadow box for added dimension.

11. Chicken Wire Frame with Fall Accents – Back a rustic frame with chicken wire and weave in seasonal stems, pinecones, berries, or leaves. You can even clip small notes or photos to the wire for a personalized touch.

Easy and Affordable Fall Frame Decor Ideas

Simple ideas can make a big statement — and they’re easy to swap out for each season.

12. “Hello Fall” Framed Sign – Paint or stencil a seasonal phrase like Gather, Thankful, or Autumn Blessings on solid fabric, then frame it.

13. Framed Fall Wreath Display – Hang a grapevine or leaf wreath inside an oversized frame using a wide, coordinating ribbon. It’s a perfect mix of classic and creative.

14. Framed Fall Quote or Scripture – Cut a vinyl sentiment with your Cricut and place it directly on the glass of a rustic frame.

15. Layered Frames on Mantel – Stack two or three empty frames in coordinating colors, tie them together with twine or ribbon, and display them on a mantel or wall for a dimensional effect.

16. Scrapbook Paper Wall Art – Use scrapbook paper with preprinted fall phrases, florals, or textures that look beautiful when framed — no extra crafting needed!

Whether you’re framing pressed leaves, heirlooms, or a handmade paper pumpkin, each project adds warmth and personality to your home. Don’t worry about perfection — it’s the creativity and love behind the display that makes it special.

As you decorate, remember that your home tells your story. Repurposing old frames isn’t just about saving money — it’s about finding beauty in simple things and creating a cozy, welcoming space that reflects the grace and creativity God has given you.

So go ahead — dig through your stash or visit a thrift store to revitalize an old photo frame. You might be surprised at what a little imagination can become!
