Finding God in Cloudy Seasons

Have you ever noticed how a cloudy day can change everything? Sometimes under a gray sky, everything feels quieter, or even heavier somehow.

Life can feel like that way too.

There are seasons when things aren’t falling apart—but they aren’t quite right either. You’re going through the motions, showing up, doing what needs to be done, but underneath it all, something feels unsettled.

When Life Feels Overcast

Not every hard season looks like a storm. Sometimes it’s just a stretch of days where your energy is low, your motivation is missing or your heart feels heavy.

Nothing dramatic. Nothing urgent. Just… cloudy.

And in those seasons, it’s easy to wonder: Where is God in this?

God Is Ever Present—Even When You Don’t Feel It

We often associate God’s presence when there is clarity, peace, or direction. But Scripture reminds us that “the Lord is near…”

Not when everything is going well. Not when you feel strong.
But when your spirit feels crushed. When your heart feels tired.
When the sky feels cloudy.

God doesn’t wait for the clouds to clear before He draws near. He meets you right in the middle of them.

Clouds Don’t Mean Absence

It’s easy to assume that when things feel heavy, or unclear, something must be wrong. But cloudy seasons don’t mean God has stepped away.

Sometimes it simply means you’re in a quieter season—one where God is working in ways you can’t yet see.

Just because you don’t feel His presence doesn’t mean He isn’t there.

A Different Kind of Nearness

There’s a closeness with God that doesn’t always come with big emotions. It shows up in quieter ways:

  • a moment of stillness
  • a deep breath when you needed it
  • a small sense of peace that wasn’t there before

It’s not loud. Or dramatic. But it’s real.
And sometimes, those quiet moments are where we learn to recognize Him more clearly.

You Don’t Have to Fix this Season

When life feels off, our instinct is to fix it, figure it out, or push through. To do whatever gets us back to feeling like ourselves again.

But what if this is something you don’t need to fix? What if this is a season to simply slow down, stay steady and just trust that God is present?

You don’t have to rush your way out of a cloudy season.
You can walk through it—knowing you’re not alone.

So, if things feel a little heavy right now, if your energy is low or your heart feels tired. Remember: You’re not forgotten.

God is not distant. He is near—closer than you realize.
Right Here. Right now.
For you.

Journaling Prompts

  1. What has felt “cloudy” or heavy in this season of my life?
  2. What would it look like for me to slow down instead of trying to fix everything?
  3. How can I remind myself this week that I’m not walking through this alone?
