“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Summer is officially here, bringing warmer temperatures, bright sunshine, and more reasons to spend time outdoors—and that seems to make life feel a little lighter.
The days are longer too—not in hours—but having more daylight gives us the feeling that there is more time.
Yet even during bright seasons, midlife can have its time of gloominess. Some women are caring for aging parents while still managing jobs and households. Others are walking through grief, health struggles, loneliness, or disappointment. Sometimes there are clouds of regret from decisions that didn’t turn out as hope.
But Scripture reminds us that darkness never has the final word when we walk with God, because 1 John 1:5 says, “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”
Think about that for a moment.
No shadows. No uncertainty. No darkness at all.
God’s Steady Warmth
God doesn’t change like seasons do. Even when situations change and people disappoint us, His presence stays constant and reliable.
And just as sunlight brings warmth to the earth, closeness with God brings warmth to our souls.
When we drift away from spending time with Him, we can start to feel spiritually cold without even noticing. Peace slowly gives way to worry, joy fades into discouragement, and we begin carrying our burdens on our own instead of resting in His strength.
But the closer we walk with God, the more we experience His comfort, wisdom, peace, and direction in our daily lives.
God’s Light Gives Us Direction
Light doesn’t only bring warmth—it also helps us see clearly.
Without light, we stumble. We lose direction and fear about what’s ahead. But God’s light is our guiding light. Psalm 27:1 reminds us, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”
As we walk with God, He guides us step by step. We may not always see the full picture, but God gives enough light for the next step forward.
God and His Word keep us grounded when life feels rocky or uncertain.
We Are Called to Reflect God’s Light
Not only does God bring light into our lives through his presence and guidance, He calls us to reflect that light to others. Jesus said in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world.”
You don’t need a platform, a perfect story, or a big audience to shine for Christ! Sometimes His light is reflected through ordinary faithfulness—encouraging a friend, caring for a loved one, praying for someone quietly, or continuing to trust God through difficult seasons.
The world desperately needs women—especially seasoned, midlife women—to carry the warmth and hope of Christ into dark places.
Remember, even small beams of light shine brightly in darkness.
Don’t Miss This
As summer begins and the days grow brighter, let this season remind you that God’s presence brings comfort to weary hearts, His truth steers uncertain steps, and His light shines through us into a world in desperate need of hope.
And no matter what season you’re walking through right now, you never have to walk through it alone.
