Understanding Biblical Prophecy in Today’s World (2025)

Have you ever felt like you were living outside of time?

That’s how I feel today. I’m writing this on June 19, 2025, and wow—so much has changed since January. The world feels different. The headlines are heavier. There’s unrest in the United States, war in the Middle East, and growing unease among believers. And many of us are quietly asking: Are we living in the end times?

The Future Could Be Now

Growing up in the 70s, I remember pastors preaching that Jesus could return at any moment. That message was bold and frequent—and it stuck with me. All these years later, I know it to be true, now more than ever.

Since 2010, I’ve been intentionally studying Biblical prophecy. While sermons and books have helped, I’ve learned the importance of reading God’s Word for myself. The Bible doesn’t just encourage it—it promises a blessing to those who do. Revelation 1:3 says, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.” (ESV)

Jesus Himself spoke about the end times in Matthew 24–25. He described signs of His return but made one thing clear: “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (Matthew 24:36 ESV)

Prophecy Is Being Fulfilled

Some scoff at the idea of Jesus returning, just as 2 Peter 3:3–4 warned. But Scripture points to key events that must happen before His return—and some already have.

One of the most significant prophetic fulfillments occurred in 1948 when Israel was reestablished as a nation (Isaiah 11:12, Ezekiel 37:21-22). After huge waves of Jewish immigration and unimaginable persecution during WWII, Israel declared statehood on May 14, 1948.

Regardless of political views, Israel remains central to the unfolding of end-time prophecy. And while tensions in the Middle East are nothing new—in light of current events, they remind us of just how close we may be to the next chapter.

A Time of Fear—or Opportunity?

Let’s be honest: it’s natural to feel anxious. We worry about what’s coming and how it will affect our families. But what if we flipped that perspective?

What if we saw this as an opportunity?

Just like in the 70s when I heard Larry Norman sing, “I Wish We’d All Been Ready,” today’s generation is hearing the gospel in new, authentic ways. The message of Jesus is spreading through podcasts, blogs, and social media—not just pulpits.

People like Russell Brand, a once self-proclaimed hedonist, now openly talk about Jesus and his personal transformation. Biblical historians like Wes Huff are engaging secular platforms with calm, intelligent gospel conversations. Even atheists are listening—some with open hearts.

There’s a hunger for truth again.

Test Everything, Hold on to Truth

However, we must be discerning. Scripture warns us repeatedly about false teachers, especially in the last days (2 Peter 2:1-3, Matthew 24:24). Unfortunately, that may include popular church and music celebrities today.

Reading the Bible for ourselves is more important now than ever.

Paul praised the Bereans who, after hearing him preach, searched the Scriptures to see if what he said was true (Acts 17:11). In 1 Thessalonians 5:21, he tells believers to “test everything; hold fast what is good.”

And the Apostle John gives us this clear instruction: “Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1 ESV) How do we test this? By seeing if they acknowledge that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, and that He is from God. (1 John 4:2)

False teachers will always downplay or deny the deity of Christ. That’s our litmus test.

Stay Watchful. Stay Prayerful.

Sister in Christ, don’t let fear have the final word. Peter reminds us: “Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:14–15)

Now is the time to be alert, grounded in Scripture, and serious about prayer. “The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.” (1 Peter 4:7 ESV)

Stay rooted. Stay ready. And keep sharing Jesus.

Live it Out

Don’t just take my word for it—go back and read the Scriptures mentioned in this post for yourself. Highlight them in your Bible, jot notes in the margins, and take time to pray through each passage. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you understanding and discernment as you study. Dig deeper into what the Bible says about prophecy, truth, and Jesus’ return. God’s Word was written for you—and now more than ever, it’s time to know it for yourself.
