Dialogue Coffee House: Brewing Inclusion in Topeka

One addition to many churches today is a coffee stand. Sometimes it’s free coffee, sometimes it’s a fundraiser for one of the church’s ministries. At my church, Fellowship Bible Church, coffee is much bigger than a Sunday morning pick-me-up—it’s a mission that reaches far beyond the church walls.

The Dialogue Coffee House, located in the foyer of FBC, is a full-service coffee stand and one of five spots open to the public in Topeka. Stopping by for a latte before church not only satisfies the caffeine cravings but also supports a mission of inclusion and community.

The Story Behind Dialogue Coffee House

Dialogue Coffee House was established in 2019 by a local entrepreneur, Caitlyn Halsey. Her goal was straightforward: she wanted to create a warm and inviting space where people can connect—whether through words, sign language, or even body language. The name Dialogue perfectly embodies this dedication.

More Than Coffee: A Mission of Inclusion

This place is more than just a coffee shop. Their vision reaches beyond brewing drinks—it’s about making spaces where people of all abilities feel valued and welcomed. By working in a professional and community-focused environment, team members have the opportunity to highlight their talents, build new skills, and contribute to the community in visible and valued way.

Customers, meanwhile, enjoy not only a great cup of coffee but also the joy of being part of something bigger—supporting equity, empowerment, and belonging.

Growing Roots in Topeka

Since opening its first location, Dialogue Coffee House has expanded to multiple locations in Topeka, employing up to 50 individuals with disabilities. Each location offers the same warm, inviting space where community thrives alongside coffee and baked goods.

Dialogue is partnered with the Capper Foundation, a nonprofit with a long legacy of supporting individuals with disabilities through job training and placement programs.

Caitlyn Halsey continues to play a hands-on role: now as Employment Services Director at Capper Foundation, she ensures the heart of Dialogue keeps beating with its original caring and purpose.
