Saving money isn’t just about stretching your budget during tough times—it’s about being intentional with your spending, no matter what stage of life you’re in. And when it comes to the grocery store, a few small habits can lead to noticable savings over time.
One simple way to cut costs is by using cash-back and rebate apps. The following reward apps can truly be worth your time. They’re easy to use, take just a few minutes to scan receipts, and you’ll start seeing rewards add up before you know it.
Keep in mind—not all apps listed below give you actual cash back. Some reward you with gift cards to your favorite retailers, which (in my opinion) is just as good—especially when you’re stocking up on Christmas gifts!
Also, what I personally earn from these apps is pretty modest, and that may be typical. But your results could be even better depending on your spending habits, favorite stores, online shopping and the brands you regularly buy.
The following 7 apps can help you save time and earn cash back without extra hassle. Keep reading to get my 6 pro tips when using these apps!
Easiest App to Earn Cash: Receipt Hog

This is by far one of the easiest apps on my phone for earning a little extra cash. You’ll earn coins just by snapping a photo of your receipts—from any store that sells groceries, health and beauty items, household goods, and more. You can even upload receipts from other household members to boost your rewards.
Coins can be redeemed for PayPal cash, a Visa gift card, or Amazon gift card—your choice! You can earn more by extra ways to rack up coins:
- Stay consistent—scanning weekly unlocks bonus coins
- Earn spins for Hog Slots from non‑grocery receipts; prizes range from coins to cash
- Complete short surveys for extra rewards
- Each receipt gives you an entry into monthly drawings
Bonus: Link your Amazon account and email, and Receipt Hog will automatically track and credit your online purchases, too.

Best App for Earning Gift Cards: Fetch
After using Receipt Hog, my next go-to app is Fetch—another super easy way to rack up rewards. For grocery receipts, you’ll earn at least 25 points just for scanning, and even more if you’ve purchased featured products or taken advantage of weekly special offers. You can also connect your Amazon account and email to earn points automatically from online purchases. Fetch now has in-app popular mobile game for more points.
While Fetch doesn’t offer direct cash payouts, their wide selection of gift cards—from retailers like Amazon, Target, and restaurants—makes it just as valuable.

Best App for Groceries: Ibotta
Ibotta works a little differently than the other apps I’ve mentioned so far. Instead of just scanning receipts, you’ll first need to select the offers you want to redeem from a long list of products available at your favorite grocery stores. Then, after you shop, scan your receipt—and sometimes the product barcodes—to verify your purchases.
Want to boost your earnings even more? Ibotta also acts as a shopping portal for many major online retailers. Just open the app, choose the store you plan to shop from, and click through Ibotta to their website to earn cash back on your purchases. If you shop via your desktop, there’s browser extensions which makes it easy to earn!

Best Apps for Reliable Earnings
When it comes to steady, no-fuss apps, these three are my favorites to “stack” receipts after I use Receipt Hog, Fetch, and Ibotta. All three have high user ratings, offer loyalty points, occasional sweepstakes entries, and lower thresholds for redeeming rewards—making them great for consistent, everyday receipt scanning.
CoinOut
This app accepts almost any receipt—grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, and more. You can scan up to seven receipts per day, and the best part? There’s no minimum to cash out. Choose from gift cards or cash via Venmo, and enjoy the simple, flexible interface.

ReceiptPal
Submit both paper and e-receipts to fill “point cards” (four receipts = 100 points). Points can be redeemed for gift cards to major retailers, and active users are automatically entered into regular sweepstakes drawings. It’s easy to use and rewards build steadily over time.
ReceiptJar
A clean and user-friendly app that lets you submit physical and digital receipts. Just note that receipts must be submitted within 7 days of purchase. Points are based on the purchase amount and can be redeemed for gift cards from popular retailers like Amazon, Target, and more.
Apps Worth a Look for Additional Grocery Savings
If you enjoy the challenge of stacking rewards across multiple apps, here are a couple of “extra” apps that might be worth a download. I don’t use them as often, but when they offer cash back on something I’m already buying, it’s a simple way to earn a little more.

Checkout 51
Simple: check weekly rebates (groceries, gas, pet care), buy eligible items, scan your receipt (or link loyalty cards), and collect cash. You can stack this with other apps—and don’t skip the gas offers to stretch your dollars even further.
Tada
New and growing, this app is another handy tool to add to your cashback lineup—especially if you like stacking offers across multiple apps. While grocery deals are still a bit limited, Tada offers an online shopping portal with plenty of cash-back opportunities from major retailers.
Would you consider using my referral links if you try any of these apps?
Some of the links in this post include my personal referral codes—when you sign up through them, not only do I earn a small reward, but you also get a new user bonus with your first scan or purchase. It’s a win-win, and a simple way to support this blog. Thank you so much!
Pro Tips When Using These Apps:
Set a scanning day: I choose one day a week to scan all my saved receipts. It keeps things simple and ensures I never miss out on rewards from expired receipts.
Link your email (and Amazon if you shop there): Many apps can scan your e-receipts automatically—an easy way to earn on online purchases you might forget about.
Link your store accounts: Some rebate apps let you connect your grocery store or retailer loyalty accounts directly, so your purchases are tracked automatically—no need to scan receipts!
Group your apps: Keep all your cashback apps in one folder on your phone’s home screen so they’re easy to find—and harder to forget.
Stack when possible: Some products show up on multiple apps, so check your offers before shopping and scan the same receipt in more than one app for double (or triple) rewards.
Cash out regularly: Don’t wait too long to redeem your points. Some apps have expiration dates for rewards or require account activity to keep points active.
