3 Quick Monday Morning Habits for a Better Work-From-Home Week

The nice thing about working from home?

  • Coffee in your favorite mug.
  • Sweatpants all day.
  • An office with a window.
  • The family dog as your office buddy.
  • Free munchies just down the hall.

It’s the perks of remote work. But even with all the cozy comforts, Mondays still happen.

After a restful weekend, it’s easy to feel sluggish at the start of the week. But a few intentional habits on Monday morning can shift your mindset and boost productivity.

Here’s how to launch into your week with less dread and more direction—in just 30 minutes.

Step 1: Set Up Your Desk – 5 Minutes

One of the biggest roadblocks to focus? A cluttered, chaotic desk.

Spend just five minutes to tidy your primary workspace—your computer area. Don’t get sidetracked by trying to organize the entire room. This is about prepping the space where you sit and work.

  • Stack related items together—notes, files, and supplies.
  • Place today’s top priorities near your keyboard.
  • Move to-be-filed or shredded papers out of sight.
  • Wipe your keyboard, screen, and mouse.
  • Make sure your planner and tech tools are handy.
  • Empty the trash from last week—it’s a fresh start.

Step 2: Clear Your Email – 10 Minutes

Don’t let a packed inbox ruin your Monday mood. These quick steps help you sort through the clutter and find your focus.

Purge:

  • Sort your inbox by Sender.
  • Batch delete junk mail, ads, and unnecessary newsletters.
  • Move low-priority emails to a separate folder.

Organize:

  • Still sorted by Sender, mark only the newest, most relevant emails from key contacts as unread.
  • Mark others as read, archive, or delete them.

Final step:

  • Sort your inbox by Unread. Now, you’ll see only what matters most—and can get started without distraction.

Step 3: Use Your Planner – 15 Minutes

This step isn’t about brainstorming new ideas—it’s about streamlining your week.

  • Note deadlines and divide tasks over the next five days.
  • Update appointments from texts or emails. Highlight key ones.
  • Not a paper planner person? Use this time to update your online calendar and sync it across your devices.

As a midlife woman balancing work and life, planning in this way keeps the week from spiraling. Personally, I use a digital calendar for appointments, but a physical planner gives me a better overview when managing blog posts and content schedules.

Live it Out

Try this 30-minute Monday routine next week. Make your coffee, set a timer, and turn on a playlist you love while you go through each step. Make it a ritual—not a chore.

You’ll start your work-from-home week with clarity and calm, and it just might make Mondays something to look forward to.

Sometime ago, I started calling Mondays, “Clean-Slate Mondays” after a mentor of mine introduced me to the concept. It changes one's perspective and attitude toward the day, and by extension, the entire week.I love your tips, although I'm not sure the email bit will work for me seeing I have a few thousand messages in my inbox currently. Thanks much.

These tips are pretty much what I do and they help me get going in the morning. I also use a google calendar and a planner for the same reasons. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent tips for getting into an organized and productive mood. When I read the title I was hoping for something more “fun” though. Like “play an uplifting song”. Mondays must be especially hard if you've been working from home long-term. Connecting with teammates goes a long way for me.

I'd love to hear what you think!
