April is recognized as Stress Awareness Month—but let’s be honest, midlife doesn’t need a special occasion to remind us what stress feels like.
Whether you’re working full-time, caring for aging parents, volunteering, or navigating health changes and life transitions, stress often rides shotgun. But here’s the truth: we don’t have to live stuck in overdrive.
Stress is a normal part of life. Sometimes it even motivates us—like when we’re meeting a deadline or pushing through a hard season. But left unchecked, long-term stress can impact both body and soul. That’s why this month is the perfect time to reset and refocus on health, rest, and joy.
Below are 5 ways to care for yourself this month—mind, body, and spirit:
1. See Your Doctor.
If you’ve been ignoring physical symptoms or postponing that yearly check-up, now’s the time. Talk with your doctor about any new concerns—especially if stress is affecting your sleep, energy, or mental health. It’s not weakness to ask for help—it’s wisdom.
2. Move Your Body.
Even gentle movement helps manage stress and lift your mood. A 10-minute walk, stretching in the kitchen, or dancing while you clean can release endorphins and bring a little lightness to your day.
3. Make Space for Soul Care.
We hear a lot about self-care—but what about soul care? That means slowing down long enough to breathe, pray, or create. Even Jesus stepped away to quiet places. You can, too.
“Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
—1 Peter 5:7
Schedule a time this week for something that fills you back up: journaling, prayer, crafting, reading, or just sitting in silence with your coffee.
4. Practice Gratitude.
Counting your blessings isn’t cliché—it’s biblical. Gratitude shifts our perspective and helps us find calm amid chaos. Keep a small list on your fridge or journal three simple joys each morning.
5. Don’t Do It Alone.
Stress isn’t a badge of honor. It’s a signal. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or anxious, talk to someone. A therapist, counselor, or trusted friend can walk alongside you. You weren’t meant to carry it all.
Midlife is a season of both weight and wonder. You are allowed to slow down. You are allowed to take care of yourself. You are allowed to ask for help.
Let April be a time of intention—less rush, more reflection. Less pressure, more peace.

I'd love to hear what you think!
