After marrying my amazing Mexican husband and soaking in the rich Mexican family traditions while living in Austin, Texas (especially the food!), I’ve have developed a deep appreciation of the culture.
Now that we’re in Kansas, we were excited to learn of Fiesta Topeka, a celebration every summer. We’re looking forward to jumping in and experiencing the Hispanic heritage and community spirit that make this event so special.
As the sun sets on warm July evenings, the city of Topeka comes alive with the vibrant sights, sounds, and flavors of Fiesta Topeka. Since its humble beginnings in 1933, this cherished event has grown into a beloved tradition—a joyful celebration of Mexican heritage, community spirit, and shared faith.
Formerly known as Fiesta Mexicana, the event embraced a new name in 2023 to honor both its proud roots and its place in the heart of Topeka. The rebranding to Fiesta Topeka coincided with its 90th anniversary, marking nearly a century of culture, pride, and unity.
This year, Fiesta Topeka promises to be bigger and better than ever. From July 15 to 19, 2025, the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church will hold the five-day extravaganza that will captivate your senses. Whether you’re a music lover, a food enthusiast, or a carnival adventurer, there’s something for everyone at Fiesta Topeka.
- Feel the beat of traditional Mexican music and folkloric dance performances.
- Savor mouthwatering dishes like tacos, tamales, enchiladas, and churros, lovingly prepared by parishioners and volunteers.
- Laugh and play on thrilling carnival rides and games, bringing smiles to faces young and old.
- Celebrate tradition with special events like the Coronation Ball, where Fiesta royalty is crowned, and scholarships are awarded to young leaders pursuing their dreams.
In 2024, Fiesta Royalty Gabriela Reyna Gutierrez Flores and Esteban Tetuan were crowned Queen and King, both receiving scholarships from Washburn University—a reminder that Fiesta Topeka is not only a festival but also a launching pad for the next generation.
Fiesta Topeka also continues its long-standing tradition of opening and closing with a special Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, celebrating faith and community through the beauty of mariachi music.
But Fiesta Topeka is more than just entertainment. It’s a testament to the enduring strength, resilience, and unity of Topeka’s community. Proceeds from the festival support important initiatives through Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Holy Family School, helping to ensure a vibrant future for generations to come.
