Book Review: NIV Beautiful Word Bible Journals

A new Bible Study Series is now available from FaithGateway: NIV Beautiful Word Bible Journals! Each journal covers a full text of a New Testament book in a slim paperback size that makes it easy to take wherever you go. It is a perfect format for personal or group Bible study.

As a Bible Gateway Blogger Grid member, I received a NIV Beautiful Word Bible Journal, Gospel of Mark to review.

With a sturdy paper cover, the layout — with text on one page and open room on the opposite – makes it perfect for personal writing, study notes, or art journaling. Several unique artists have added their own personal creative illustrations for selected key verses.

As someone who likes to mark up and make notes, I loved having the extra room these journals provide. Scripture artwork appears on every other page, still allowing plenty of room for writing or adding personal illustrations.

In the back of the journal are even more pages for notes, and my journal had a handy table that gave weights and measures from the Bible, converted to current times.

Use these journals to learn Bible art journaling.

Suppose you have wanted to experiment with art journaling. In that case, these journals are an affordable substitute instead of purchasing a separate journal-specific Bible. And if you don’t think of yourself as an artist, that’s okay! There are plenty of other ways to illustrate your journals. With some simple tools, art journaling is a way to add creativity to your devotional time.

Pick up some affordable tools for Bible art journaling.

I have a few simple tools for my journaling – and I use the same ones for my planner. Here are some ideas:

Pens & Pencils
Color pencils are perfect for art journaling and work best for coloring illustrations. Look for some colorful pens that do not bleed through the pages. I found these fine-point Sharpie pens for underlining keywords or highlighting different topics.

Highlighters
In my Bible, I assign colors to highlight verses in specific topics. I prefer these Zebra highlighters because they have broad and fine tip ends and don’t bleed through the paper. There are many others color sets or larger sets available.

Stickers and Washi Tape
Bible-themed stickers and washi tape are popular for journals. While many companies are making Bible journaling products, I can recommend American Crafts. They have always made quality paper and other scrapbooking supplies, which I have purchased for years.

Stencils and Stamps
Many crafters have stencils and stamps in their stash. These supplies aren’t necessary, but many online tutorials are available if you are interested in adding mixed media to your journal.
